WWII Veterans Honored In Hunterdon County
JOHN PALLER - French Consulate General Anne-Claire Legendre awarded Raritan Township resident, Veteran John Paller, with France’s most prestigious distinction for military or civil service, the Legion of Honor, on Tuesday, February 11th at the Historic Courthouse in downtown Flemington.
In addition to receiving the Legion of Honor, Paller was presented with a joint legislative resolution on behalf of Assemblymen Zwicker and Freiman and Senator Bateman. Paller also received proclamations from the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Raritan Township Committee.
Freeholder Deputy Director Susan J. Soloway recognized Paller for his honorable and distinguished service, having flown over 35 combat missions in France and Germany, and then upon his return, serving as a flight instructor in the Air Force for twenty-two continuous years.
AGNISO 'GENE' VALENTINO - The Hunterdon County Freeholder Board presented Veteran Agniso “Gene” Valentino with a proclamation to commemorate his 100th birthday and to honor him for his dedicated service to the nation during the June 2nd Freeholder Meeting, held virtually per the state’s Executive Orders.
Valentino served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, earning more than ten service-related medals and an Honorable Discharge Medal from the U.S. Coast Guard, before entering a career as a Merchant Marine, earning his Merchant Master’s License and transporting goods all over the world until he retired in 1985.
Freeholder Soloway extended the Board’s gratitude to Valentino, during the virtual meeting, for his extraordinary service through three arduous battles, along with wishes for a special celebration as family, neighbors and friends, and members of the Freeholder Board, congratulate and honor him for all of his achievements. |
