Transition to Post-Pandemic Operations of the Hunterdon County Surrogate Court
In accordance with the Chief Justice and the Administrative Director of the Courts, the Hunterdon County Surrogate Court will reopen to the public on August 2, 2021.
Court hours will continue to be 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
As the court transitions to post-pandemic operations Surrogate Hoffman suggests that persons needing to transact business in the Surrogate Court should make an appointment, however appointments will not be necessary.
To expedite the time in the Surrogate Court, attorneys and clients are encouraged to submit information sheets, copies of wills, death certificates, etc. prior to appearing by either facsimile, email, mail or drop box in the lobby.
For those persons not wanting to appear in the Surrogate Court we will continue to use the procedure as during the pandemic – forwarding the original will, certified copy of the death certificate and information sheet to the court and the documents will be sent via email to print and take to a notary or attorney to witness the signature. Signed documents can be returned to the Surrogate Court by drop box and you will be contacted when the probate process is complete.
Masks are currently required when entering the Justice Center. Updates will be provided as mandates change.
