Older Americans Month

WHEREAS, the month of May is traditionally designated and observed throughout the nation as Older Americans Month; AND

WHEREAS, the 2001 theme is "The Many Faces of Aging", in recognition of the rapidly increasing multi-cultural and multi-generational aging population; and

WHEREAS, minority older Americans are expected to represent 25% of the older population by 2030; and

WHEREAS, persons age 65 and older living alone are a large and growing segment of the elderly population, and those age 85 and older who are the most vulnerable, will more than double by 2030; and

WHEREAS, in-home and community based services must be available and targeted to those in most social and economic need; and

WHEREAS, the role of the Hunterdon County Office on Aging is to preserve the rights and insure the inherent dignity of the County's vulnerable and at-risk older residents;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Hunterdon that the month of May, 2001, be hereby declared OLDER AMERICANS MONTH, in the County of Hunterdon, and encourages communities to work together to meet the challenges and growing needs of our older Hunterdon County residents.
