Cherry-faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum internum) male

This is not a hawk but a dragonfly, which is named after the red color on its face. Although dragonflies live on land as adults, their larvae hatch from eggs laid in water. As this aquatic larva grows, it molts (loses its skin) many times.
