Sapsucker holes

The lines in this tree were made by a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, a woodpecker that creates horizontal rows of holes to drink tree sap and also to eat the insects that are attracted to the sap. These woodpeckers can be found in Hunterdon County in winter.
