VIETNAM MOVING WALL
September 30th through October 5th
Preamble of the Vietnam
Veterans Memorial "IN HONOR OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES WHO SERVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR. THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AND OF THOSE WHO REMAIN MISSING ARE INSCRIBED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE TAKEN FROM US." |
A Moving Wall, which is a replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display in the Borough of Flemington at Tuccamirgan Park, from September 30th to October 5th. Parking is available on Bonnell Street and the Saint Magdalen's Church parking lot (directly across from Tuccamirgan Park). The Wall is being brought to Hunterdon County so that we can honor the men who were killed in this very difficult war. It is also meant to bring a healing to veterans, families and friends. Another important focus is to educate our youth about this war and its impact on our nation and veterans. The Wall is a memorial that continues to heal even though the war is long over. As one Vietnam veteran has said: |
"We come to touch the wall, rub it, sign to it, pray against it, stare at it and talk to it. The Wall is about the dead but is not for them. It is for the living. It lets us say good-bye, good buddies, we miss you."
The viewing of the Wall is on a 24-hour basis. However, members from each municipality will conduct private ceremonies for fall veterans from their area. A calendar of events for these ceremonies at the memorial is as follows:
