15th Anniversary of the LINK
WHEREAS, in celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the LINK -- Hunterdon County's Consolidated Transportation System -- the Hunterdon County Transportation Advisory Committee in concert with Hunterdon Area Rural Transit, Hunterdon's Management Association, has recommended that the week of Sunday, November 26, 2000, through Saturday, December 2, 2000, be designated as "THINK LINK" Week; and
WHEREAS, since its inception on July 1, 1985 the LINK has provided well in excess of 1,960,000 trips, over 7,710,000 miles to its riders and now intends to broaden its ridership to all County residents while enhancing its daily services; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hunterdon must pursue the goal of intra-county Public Transit services on behalf of its citizens without the support provided by the State to 19 other counties; and
WHEREAS, recognition of THINK LINK WEEK, reaffirms Hunterdon County's commitment to ensure that ALL HUNTERDON RESIDENTS requiring or choosing to use public transportation in carrying out their daily life activities will be assured of the availability of a stable, affordable, handicapped accessible transportation infrastructure within the County - the LINK - the increasing use of which by the general public would decrease high occupancy on our roads thereby enhancing both air quality, and quality of life for Hunterdon residents, while providing for improved traffic management;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders does hereby declare the week of November 26, 2000 through December 2, 2000, as THINK LINK WEEK in Hunterdon County and encourages all residents to RIDE LINK for their In-County transit needs.
