November, 2002 - National Hospice Month
Peggy Whalen - Hunterdon Hospice's Home Health Aide of the Year

WHEREAS, hospice care provides humane and comforting support for terminally ill patients and their families, including pin control, palliative medical care, and social, emotional and spiritual services; and

WHEREAS, hospice fulfills basic human needs of feeling comfortable in familiar surroundings and of attaining physical and emotional peace during the last stage of life; and

WHEREAS, more than 40,000 professionals and 90,000 volunteers providing comforting and supportive hospice services to nearly 700,000 patients and their families in an estimated 3,300 hospice program throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, Hunterdon Hospice has joined the National Hospice an d Palliative Care Organization and an estimated 3,300 hospice providers in declaring November, 2002 as National Hospice Month; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Whalen has been named Hunterdon Hospice’s Home Health Aide of the year in recognition of her superior service in the homes of Hospice patients and their families; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Hunterdon does hereby proclaim November 2002 as National Hospice Month, and urges the residents of the County to recognize the efforts of hospice providers, and encourages all to support and participate in learning more about the hospice concept of care for the elderly, disabled and infirm.
