Freeholder's Index

The Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders held a special ceremony for employees of the County Road Department recognizing them for work above and beyond the call of duty.

In the early morning hours of August 18, 2000, five individuals attempted to shoot and kill a Clinton Borough Police Officer. After their apprehension on the 18th, a search was conducted of the area for additional evidence the following day.

Robbie Bennett, Martin Bush, Tom Leone, Rick Roll, Mike Ronaldo, Joe Schellhorn and Ryan Ziemba, employees of the Hunterdon County Road Department responded with equipment to help in the search. These men took part in the search lines with other law enforcement officers from within the County.
Special Employee Recognition

Kneeling: Tom Leone, Rick Roll, Joe Schellhorn, Ryan Ziemba
Standing: Robbie Bennett, Freeholder Muller, Freeholder Melick, Chief of Detectives Nick Susalis, Freeholder Sauerland, Freeholder Karrow, County Prosector Stephen Rubin, Mike Ronaldo, Martin Bush and Freeholder Fuzo

The men were literally on their hands and knees looking through the brush and weeds attempting to locate a handgun used in the crime. They also cleared large sections of the area to make the search easier. After this, with little rest, they again voluntarily re-joined the search on their hands and knees looking for additional evidence.

These men were there on the 19th from beginning to end, and their help was invaluable. They went above and beyond the call of duty to assist the local law enforcement in this search. Their initiative, diligence, and dedication to duty reflect great credit not only upon themselves and to the County Road Department, but all Hunterdon County Employees.
