Freeholders Hold Reception for Dennis Cox
Newly Appointed Superintendent of Schools for Hunterdon County

Prior to the regularly scheduled Freeholders Meeting on Tuesday, July 11, 2000, the Board held a special welcome reception to Dennis Cox, the newly appointed Superintendent of Schools for Hunterdon County. The Freeholders welcomed Mr. Cox to Hunterdon and wished him much success and enjoyment with his new position in Hunterdon.

Mr. Cox stated he feels very fortunate to have been chosen as the Superintendent in Hunterdon County. He's been an educator for over 20 years, 17 of which he served as an elementary school teacher in Jersey City before coming to work for the Department of Education in 1989. Most recently he has served as the Administrative Assistant to a Superintendent in Passaic County. That was the training ground that prepared him for his new appointment. Mr. Cox said he feels he has a good network within the Department of Education to help him find answers for the school districts, the public and the Freeholders. Mr. Cox also thanked the Board for the new office building, located at 10 Court Street. He looks forward to developing a positive relations with the Freeholders as well as his staff.

Mr. Cox comes to Hunterdon County, after serving as Planning Associate for the Northern Region Coordinating County Superintendent of Schools. He has over 27 years of professional experience including: teaching, administrative work, coordination and implementation of policies and initiatives that impact education. Mr. Cox earned his BA in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, his Certificate in Elementary Education from Jersey City State College and an MA in Administration and Supervision - New Jersey School Administrator from Kean College. He has also been employed by the NJ Department of Education since 1989, prior to that he worked for the Jersey City Board of Education as a Substance Awareness Coordinator and Elementary School Educator.

Superintendent Cox was appointed in June, 2000 by the State Department of Education replacing John Ericson, who is now the Chief School Administrator for Union Township School.
