STATE OF NEW JERSEY
WHEREAS, the month of May is traditionally designated and observed throughout the nation as Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, the 2005 theme is “Celebrate Long-Term Living”, in celebration and recognition of older Americans who are living longer, healthier and more productive lives; and
WHEREAS, older Americans are a vital part of our nation’s demographic makeup; and
WHEREAS, older Americans are members of our community entitled to dignified, independent lives free from fears, myths and misconceptions about aging;
WHEREAS, each community in American must strive to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, understand and address their evolving needs, and support their caregivers; and
WHEREAS, our society is dependent upon intergenerational cooperation and support, and benefits from our collective efforts to serve older Americans and the people who love them.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Hunterdon that the month of May, 2005, be hereby declared as OLDER AMERICANS MONTH, in the County of Hunterdon, and calls upon communities to honor and celebrate the outstanding contributions of Hunterdon County’s older residents.
