CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
WHEREAS, child abuse is a horrible crime perpetrated against our most precious and most vulnerable, and is intolerable; and
WHEREAS, approximately 3 million children are reported abused and neglected in this country each year; including over 80,000 in New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, the effects of child abuse are felt by whole communities, and finding solutions depends on involvement among people throughout the community; and
WHEREAS, all citizens should become more aware of the negative effects of child abuse and its prevention within the community, and become involved in supporting parents to raise their children in a safe and nurturing environment; and
WHEREAS, effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of the determination of individuals and groups and partnerships created among social service agencies, schools, religious and civic groups, law enforcement agencies, and the business community;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Hunterdon does hereby proclaim April, 2002 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the County and calls upon all citizens, community agencies, schools, religious organizations, medical facilities, and businesses to increase their participation in efforts to prevent child abuse, thereby strengthening our communities and families and fulfilling our obligation to protect our children.
