Kent Smack was born and raised in the County of Hunterdon; and
Kent Smack's mother accepted a proclamation
from Freeholder Director Karrow on his behalf.
WHEREAS, Kent Smack was recruited by the Hobart Crew Coach, Jim Joy, who became his mentor and most influential person in his sporting career; and
WHEREAS, Kent Smack began rowing as a hobby to promote a healthy lifestyle which resulted in a desire to compete; and
WHEREAS, this competitiveness resulted in Kent Smack twice achieving a position on the National Rowing Team, winning the Mixed Double Sculls (with his wife) at the 2003 Green Mountain Head Regatta, placing second in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls at the 2004 Olympic Qualification Regatta, and qualifying for the 2004 Olympics in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls; and
WHEREAS, Kent Smack placed eleventh in the world at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the Men’s Quadruple Sculls in Athens, Greece;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders speak on behalf of the County, that Kent Smack has brought pride and honor to his family, coaches and friends and national recognition to North Hunterdon Regional High School, the community of Clinton Township and the County of Hunterdon; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders proudly acknowledge Kent Smack having represented the United States of America in the most prestigious athletic competition in the world; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders does hereby wish Kent Smack much success in all his future endeavors.
