Chris Kappler , 2004 Olympics
Silver Medalist, Team Jumping and Bronze Medalist for Individual Jumping

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler began his riding career when his mother began taking riding lessons, and continued his interest in horses long after his mother stopped riding lessons; and

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler began his Grand Prix career in 1984 at age 17, placing Fifth in his first major show jumping event; and

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler in 1988 was presented with the Lionel Guerrand-Hermes trophy awarded to a rider exemplifying outstanding sportsmanship and horsemanship; and competed in his first World Cup final in 1989 placing Seventh; and

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler was the first ever to sweep back to back the $200,000 Budweiser American Invitational and the AGA Show Jumping Championships on consecutive weekends in 2003, was the 2003 Pan American Games team gold medalist and individual silver medalist, and was named the USEF 2003 “Equestrian of the Year”; and

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler was considered a discretionary selection to the 2004 United States Olympic Show Jumping Team based on outstanding performances in 2002 and 2003; and

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler through his athletic ability and personal and team contribution earned an equestrian silver medal for team jumping and a bronze for individual jumping; and

WHEREAS, in the individual jumping competition, Chris Kappler chose the safety of his stallion, Royal Kaliber, over personal gain and recognition of earning a silver medal; and

WHEREAS, Chris Kappler has taken his personal passion and turned it into a professional venture which preserves and protects the rural integrity of Hunterdon County;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders speak on behalf of the citizens of Hunterdon County, that Chris Kappler has brought pride, honor and national recognition to his family, coaches, friends and community in his accomplishments at the 2004 Summer Olympics; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders does hereby wish Chris Kappler much success in all his future endeavors.
