Route 31 will be widened north of the proposed connection to the Flemington Bypass, from the existing two travel lanes to four travel lanes. Work will include grading, paving and replacement of the bridges over the South Branch and the CSX/Norfolk-Southern Rail Road

09/26/2003 UPDATE FROM THE NJDOT:
This project will dualize Route 31 from River
Road to sought of Stanton Station Road and reconstruct the bridges over ConRail
and the South Branch of the Raritan River. The project is expected to be completed
on or before February 14, 2004. The Contractor has completed the northbound
bridges over the ConRail Line and the South Branch of the Raritan River. The
traffic has been completely diverted to the northbound roadway so that the southbound
roadway can be constructed. Substantial progress has been made on constructing
the southbound structures. Additional right of way will be required to correct
a slope failure. Once a right of entry is received from the owner, cutting back
the slope to correct this will begin. All of the retaining walls have been completed.
The project is approximately 85% completed.
01/31/2003 UPDATE FROM THE NJDOT:
This Project will dualize Route 31 from River Road
to sough of Stanton Station Road and reconstruct the bridges over ConRAil and
the South Branch of the Raritan River. The project is expected to be completed
on or before December 30, 2003. The Contractor has completed the bridges over
the ConRail Rail Line and the South Branch of the Raritan River. Traffic has
been completely diverted to the northbound roadway so that the southbound roadway
can be constructed. the Demolition of the old bridges should begin shortly.
A change of plan has been developed to address a slope failure of approximately
400 feet. It consists of cutting back the slope and reducing the steepness of
the slope. Additional right of way will be required. Retaining walls #1 and
#2 have been completed. Work on Retaining Wall #3 along the river has begun.
The project is approximately 66% complete.
