09/26/2003 UPDATE FROM THE NJDOT:
This Federal Aid project is currently in Final design. THis project was 'broken out' of the Route 31 Congestion Mitigation studies as an independent project at the request of local officials so that it could be accelerated to construction. The proposed improvement involves cutting through the existing grass median at the intersection with appropriate signals, jug handles and minor widening of Case Boulevard. The Ridge Road intersection at Route 202 will be terminated and access will be provided to Case Boulevard via a new roadway connection at the west end of Ridge Road.

Final Design is proceeding. Implementation of the 1992 Access Code will begin shortly, and acquisition of Right of Way will commence when funds become available (the latest projections indicated FY2005 ROW funding availably). Current projections indicate the project could be awarded for construction in the Spring of 2006. however, Raritan Township has not shown evidence of the smart growth planning critical to preventing conditions from worsening in the future. As a result, this project is undergoing Smart Growth Review to determine consistency with Smart Growth Objectives. Raritan's ability to show compliance with Smart Growth objectives could affect the prioritization of the construction funding for this project.
