HOW TO HELP A BABY
They’re tiny when they arrive but they sure require huge amounts of supplies. Because there are mothers-to-be in Hunterdon County that do not have all these baby basics covered, a healthy start for their infants can not always be assured. But residents can help by dropping off items for newborns – diapers and baby wipes are needed right now – at 8 Gauntt Place (off Route 31 next to hospital), Building 3, in Flemington, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Storing newly arrived items in photo are Maternal Child Health Coordinator Shu Chiang (left), BSN, RN, Jackelyn Guevara (center) bilingual program assistant, and Ivonne S. Kyle, MPA, RN. The team, which includes Jennifer Pfurr, RN, and Jennifer Lynch, RN, also provides education and home visits to clients. The Public Health Nursing & Education division of the county health department collects baby goods as part of its Improved Pregnancy Outcome program to help ensure a healthy beginning for mother and child. By coordinating delivery of essential prenatal care and supplies, the program team is currently working to help 172 such families, including more than 25 women younger than 20 years of age. With such need, it is difficult to keep the shelves stocked with items that babies require so regularly. For information, call 806-4570. |
