PUBLIC POOLS OPEN WITH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT APPROVAL

Before the first spouting cannonball of the summer, a lot of work will have occurred leading up to that opening splash. Making sure that public bathing facilities are safe and meet rigorous standards, field inspectors from the Hunterdon County Department of Health traverse the county to examine 50 outdoor recreational pools gearing up for a long, hot summer.

During the year, the health department also inspects nine indoor facilities. County health specialists advise pool operators about maintaining water chemistry that meets New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services guidelines; making certain that electrical, bonding and grounding systems are safe; and ensuring that life saving equipment is readily accessible and in good working order. Inspectors also want to see anti-entrapment drain covers and that at least one additional level of entrapment protection is in place.
