Hunterdon County Not Affected By Salmonella At This Time

Carla Hobbs, director of the county health department’s Environmental Health division reported that the current nationwide investigation involving the salmonella outbreak also includes cases in New Jersey, but not in Hunterdon County at this time.  “Our county health team is monitoring the list of recalled products and contacting retail food establishments that may have these items. We’re working to ensure that food stores in the county are aware of the recall and are removing any suspect products.”

Based on current facts, the CDC and FDA recommend that consumers postpone eating other peanut butter-containing products including cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream until more information becomes available about which brands may be affected.  And of course do not eat products that were recalled but be sure to discard them in a manner that prevents others from eating them.  Persons who think they may have become ill from eating peanut butter are advised to consult their health care providers.
