Rolling On the Sun Screen

Brennan Bischoff coats Barbara Jaffe with a healthy dose of sun screen during the recent Safe Fun in the Sun event at the Hunterdon County YMCA Deer Path Park.   The event, sponsored by the Hunterdon County Cancer Coalition, presented area residents with a creative mix of information about sun safety, specially designed games, and take-home items including bucket hats, beach bags and sunscreen.  Current studies indicate that sunburn during childhood can significantly increase your risk of malignant melanoma. Some specialists even say the chances of developing this type of skin cancer are doubled by receiving just one blistering sunburn before the age of 20.

The Hunterdon County Cancer Coalition is dedicated to spreading awareness across all age groups about how dangerous the sun can be without proper protection.  For more information, contact Marc Katz, coalition coordinator with the Hunterdon County Department of Health at 908-237-7159.
