 The Epidemiology program identifies, investigates and responds to cases of reportable communicable diseases and outbreaks of public health importance. Disease surveillance is accomplished through monitoring and analyzing information received from the hospital, schools, childcare centers, and long term care facilities. Surveillance of emergency department visits and influenza-like illness are essential in identifying any unusual activity in the community. The Epidemiology program provides consultation to medical providers on reporting cases, collecting appropriate specimens, and recommending antibiotics or vaccine for contacts.
