A ground breaking ceremony was held Thursday, May 04, 2017 at Heron Glen, Hunterdon County's public golf course, to mark the start of construction of a clubhouse.
The Freeholders approved a contract on April 18, 2017 with A.B. Designs Contracting Corporation to build the clubhouse, replacing trailers that have been on the course since it opened in 2002. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of the year, with a grand opening in early 2018.
Attendees included: Freeholder Director, John Lanza; Deputy Director, John King and Freeholders Matt Holt and Suzanne Lagay; Sheriff Fred Brown, County Clerk Mary Melfi, Former Freeholder George Muller; County Administrative Staff, Election Officials and employees; staff of Kemper Sports who manage Heron Glen and Executives of A.B. Design Contracting Corporation.
Freeholder Director John Lanza told the gathering for the ground breaking ceremony, "Heron Glen, beyond being an outstanding golf course, is a positive revenue producing facility for the countyís taxpayers. As projected in the 2007 Golf Resource Associates, Inc. study, the addition of this beautiful clubhouse will serve to enhance the financial benefit for taxpayers."
"Ultimately the Heron Glen profits result in monies that do not need to be raised in taxes to support the county budget. And thatís a hole in one for the taxpayers." Lanza said.
