WHEREAS, Hunterdon County is dedicated to reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality; and
WHEREAS, HART Commuter Information Services, the non profit transportation management association serving Hunterdon County, contributes to the goal of reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality in Hunterdon County by promoting the use of alternative commute modes, including bicycling; and
WHEREAS, HART, as part of its commuter programs, annually sponsors a “Bike to Work” event; and
WHEREAS, previous Hunterdon County Bike to Work events have resulted in more than 100 Hunterdon County bound commuters choosing leave their cars at home and cycle to work and more than 30 cyclist commuting to Hunterdon County worksites on a regular basis; and
WHEREAS, there is increased interest in cycling as a commute option due to historically high gas prices; and
WHEREAS, HART Commuter Information Services wishes to provide more opportunity for commuters to cycle to work and has therefore expanded the event to “Bike to Work Week”; and
WHEREAS, Clinton Bicycle Shop, Cycle Corner of Frenchtown, Garden State Bicycle Shop and Pete’s Bike & Fitness Shoppe, and Wheelfine Imports, are signed on as co-sponsors of Hunterdon County Bike to Work Week; and
WHEREAS, HART will actively solicit the participation of commuters traveling to Hunterdon County worksites to bicycle to work the week of May 15-19, 2006;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Hunterdon hereby officially declares the week of May 15- 19, 2006 as Hunterdon County Bike to Work Week 2006; andBE IT FURTHER RESOLVED , that the Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders hereby encourages County residents and commuters to consider cycling to work as participants of Hunterdon County Bike to Work Week, May 15-19, 2006.
