Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) Seedpod.  Seedpods from milkweed plants opening up in fall/winter to allow the seeds to settle into the ground and experience a period of cold weather before sprouting.  In spring and summer, monarch butterflies lay their eggs on the leaves of this plant, living there until the caterpillars become chrysalises and then emerge into adults.  CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW
