Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana).  An Eastern Red Cedar leans out into the field.  Red Cedars are an early successional species, meaning they are one of the first plants to grow up out of an old field, creating shade habitat needed for other species like oaks and hickories to eventually take over.  CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW
