Great Egret (Ardea alba).  This large (38”), stately, white heron has a yellow bill and black legs and feet.  It can be found in marshes, ponds, shores, and mudflats.  The Great Egret takes on an eager, forward-leaning pose with neck extended when feeding.  It will make a low hoarse croak or cuk, cuk, cuk sound (Peterson 48).  In Hunterdon County they are primarily seen during fall migration (late July through September).
