Trail.  A single hiking trail runs through Union Furnace.  The trailhead is located across from the Spruce Run fishing access parking area.  Part of the trail incorporates the berm of the old mill raceway.  Then it climbs up the hill and emerges onto Serpentine Drive.  The trail is part of the teal-blazed Highlands Trail, which is a cooperative effort of the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference and local landowners.  Their goal is to create a 150-mile trail that will span the Highlands region between Riegelsville, New Jersey and the New York/Connecticut border.
