back GROUNDHOG Next

Groundhog/Woodchuck (Marmota monax).  This rodent is a type of marmot.  These mammals hibernate (sleep through winter) in burrows.  Groundhogs are found in North America in forests and fields.  They are herbivores and are also known as “whistle pigs” because of the loud call they occasionally make to warn others of danger.
