back GNEISS ROCK Next

Gneiss Rocks.  Most of the rock surrounding the Teetertown Ravine is gneiss (a medium-grained rock that is “foliated” or layered with lines of minerals) and dates to the Middle Proterozoic Period (approximately 1.5 billion years ago).  This is very old, considering the Earth itself is approximately 4.6 billion years old.  While the area has many large rocks and walls, CLIMBING IS NOT PERMITTED!
