Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana).  Common witch hazel is a beautiful native shrub with yellow blooms in November that take advantage of late-season pollinators when few other flowers are blooming.  Ozark Witch Hazel (H. vernalis) is a native of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas that blooms in February, and is commonly cultivated as an ornamental species.  Witch hazel is famously used as an astringent anti-inflammatory compound in many commercial healthcare products, mainly for hemorrhoids, minor bleeding, and skin irritation.
