back to index Black Walnut Tree back to index
Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a valuable and beautiful native tree.  Its durable and strong heartwood is used in veneer, cabinets, and other furnishings.  The bark is used in tanning.  Nuts provide a food source for small rodents as well as humans.  The tree secretes a chemical from its roots to reduce competition by other flora.
