Emetic Russula (Russula silvacola). Found in dry woods and brushy areas, these russulas, with their distinct pink or reddish caps, can grow up to 3" wide. The stalks are white and generally 2" to 4" tall. Growing next to tree roots, the russulas pull nutrients from the trees as well as giving them nutrients that they wouldn't normally receive. They prefer to grow near tree species such as beech and pine, but can also be found growing on rotted wood and dead leaves.
