Heal-all (Prunella vulgaris). This naturalized European perennial is in the mint family. In past centuries, it was used for medicinal purposes (thus the name). "It has been used medicinally to cure many ailments. We find it used for the treatment of boils, gas, colic, sore throat, hemorrahages, and diarrhea. It is much esteemed for healing wounds as it is an effective astringent, thus useful in stopping the flow of blood from a cut or wound" (Caroline Dean). Today, it can be found on roadsides, in pastures, in low woodlands, etc.
