Flowering Crabapple (Malus spp).  This is a commonly cultivated tree.  While not native to New Jersey, it has naturalized.  The crabapple's fruit is eaten by many varieties of wildlife, and this has contributed to making the trees common in abandoned fields, hedgerows, and forest edges.  The tendency of the crabapples to cross-pollinate with fruiting apple trees makes it difficult to identify beyond the genus.
