Eastern Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta picta). These are water turtles, which can grow up to 9 inches long. They are black with smooth, flattened shells. They have red markings around the edge of the top of the shell (carapace). The bottom part of the turtle's shell (plastron) is yellow. These turtles also have yellow and red stripes on their necks, legs, and tails.
