back to index black walnut bark Next

Black Walnut (Juglandaceae Juglans nigra) Bark. While the bark is flaky when young, as it ages, it becomes ridged and deeply furrowed, forming a diamondback pattern as the ridges become interlaced. The color is generally brown-gray or gray-black (Ohio Department of Natural Resources).
