Moth. It is fiction that all butterflies are out during the day and all moths are out during the night. The best way to tell butterflies from moths is the antennae. Butterfly antennae are club-like, ending in a swollen tip.  Moths have antennae that closely resemble feathers or thin lines.  Butterflies are also much stronger fliers than moths.
