back Tree Crickets Next

Tree Crickets (Genera Oecanthus and Neoxabea). Tree crickets have translucent green or red-green bodies with long lacy wings that they hold straight up when they “sing” (produce a song by vibrating their wings together).  These species produce long, continuous musical trills at night in a variety of habitats.  Males of many species sing from the underside of a curled leaf, the edge of a leaf, or a hole in a leaf, to reduce acoustic interference and increase the intensity of their songs.
