Pokeweed (Phytolacca americana)Pokeweed is a native plant that can grow up to 10 feet high.  Its berries and roots are poisonous.  Flowering from July to September, it can be found in damp thickets, clearings, and along roadsides.  The berry juice was used as a dye by the early colonists and to improve the taste of cheap wine.
