back to index Hickory Nut back to index

Hickory Nut.  The fruit of the hickory tree is a rounded nut 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter.  This hickory nut has been used as food for a squirrel, as evidenced by the hole in it.  At one time there was a thick husk surrounding the nut that split at the base when the nut matured.
