Pine Sap. Pinesap is a sticky residue that is secreted through a wound in a tree's bark. These wounds can be caused by several things, from wildlife (like insects and woodpeckers), natural forces (wind and snow) or man. The sap acts as a bandage as the tree attempts to heal the wounds. Normally, the sap acts as a carrier within the tree, transporting resources between the roots and the needles.
