Wings Section - Part of the South Branch Reservation - Guide and Trail Map

From 1959 until 1975, some of this land was incorporated into a 200-acre farm belonging to William and Mary Ann Wing. William and his brother Walter operated a produce shipping company known as “WilWal, Incorporated,” selling fruits and vegetables to Asian farm markets across the New York City metropolitan region.

The county acquired 60 acres of the farm and floodplain along the South Branch in 1975. Additional acreage was purchased later, bringing the present total to 90 acres. The Wings Section is part of the 1000-acre South Branch Reservation, a preserved greenway along the South Branch of the Raritan River offering recreational opportunities to explore its amazing natural resources up close.

FISHING Adjacent to the South Branch of the Raritan River, Wings offers access to the river’s edge for fishing. The river is stocked with Rainbow, Brook, and Brown Trout. A state fishing license with a trout stamp must be displayed.

HUNTING In order to control the population of deer on park property, hunting is permitted. Hunters must obtain a special permit issued by the Division to be able to hunt on the preserve. Visitors between September and February are strongly encouraged to wear blaze orange or confine visits to Sundays. See additional information on the Hunterdon County Park System Controlled Hunting Program.

  • Deer Path Park: Our main developed park facility; Deer Path offers pavilions, a picnic grove, and a 2.5-mile running trail for public use. Trail linkage also exists with the Round Mountain Section of Deer Path Park.
  • Assiscong Marsh: Par t of the South Branch Reservation and the largest freshwater marsh in the County. This location offers wonderful viewing opportunities of resident and migratory waterfowl and shorebirds. Parking is in a small lot just off of River Road.

See the guides for these locations to obtain more information about the sites

With the exception of park properties with reservable facilities, all properties are “carry in / carry out” and trash/recycling receptacles are
not provided. Please plan accordingly and do not leave any trash/recyclables behind.

The Hunterdon County Parks and Recreation Division is dedicated to preserving open space and natural resources, providing safe parks and facilities, and offering educational and recreational opportunities, all contributing to an enhanced quality of life for present and future generations.
