Our Screening and Health Awareness programs, as well as our various fitness programs, teach you how to stay healthy, know good health habits, know about warning signals before you have a health concern that is serious. Taking preventive measures is the key to staying healthy. This will mean fewer hospitalizations and less spent for health care costs. This program is made possible through the generous support of: Merck & Co. - J&J Community Foundation - Italian American Club of Hunterdon County - Private Donations
The SCREENING AND HEALTH AWARENESS PROGRAMS for Hunterdon County residents, 50 years of age and over, are held four (4) times annually at various locations throughout the County. Included in the 2010 Screening and Health Awareness Programs are approximately 43 different tests/consults on a one-to-one basis, with follow-up by a registered nurse. No charge, but donations are accepted. Pre-registration requirements can be obtained by calling the Program Director at (908) 782-7224. All programs are held from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm Only persons taking the blood and urinalysis tests will be notified of the results...all other tests (except colo-rectal) give results at the program. Results can besent directly to the participant, or the participants physician. See our Screenings Checklist - a helpful guide to what is available at our Screenings. When a report is sent it will state "CALL YOUR PHYSICIAN." Only the Senior and their physician know the medical history. Our reports reflect an average for this age group, and that is why we suggest calling first. One physician may feel a test is within normal limits for a specific patient, while another may find the same reading as a "possible screening abnormality" for their patient. Senior Health Services and physicians do not want anyone to make an unnecessary office visits. Call First. A registered nurse will be reviewing and sending reports and contacting you for follow-up regarding any screening abnormality. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS ONLY A SCREENING PROGRAM - NOT A DIAGNOSIS. All sites are barrier free. These programs do not discriminate on the basis of handicap, sex, race, creed or national origin. Should Transportation be necessary, call the LINK Dispatcher at 1-800-842-0531, three to five days prior to the program, between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Phlebotomy is done by professionals. Testing is done by a licensed professional laboratory at the Hunterdon Medical Center. Since Tests are expensive, you are limited to one (1) free comprehensive blood test and (1) free urine test and (1) free thyroid blood test per year. VOLUNTEERS, THANK YOU!
