The Hunterdon County Division of Senior Services, established in 1972 by the Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey Division on Aging, and federally designated as an Area Agency on Aging, is the focal point for elderly residents and the community resource for information, referral, advocacy, and service regarding persons 60 and over.
The mission of Senior Services is to develop and coordinate programs and services which enable Hunterdon County residents 60 and over, especially those in most social or economic need, to remain independently in their own homes as long as possible, and to live in dignity.
The Division of Senior Services, in accordance with the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, regularly assesses need, evaluates and coordinates public and private resources to meet the need, establishes service priorities and program objectives, develops and implements an annual Area Plan of Services and administers and monitors the use of federal, state, and county funds to assure provision of Area Plan services.
Services of the office on Aging are free to Hunterdon County residents 60 and over, and are offered without regard to income handicap, race, sex, creed, or national origin.

ABOUT THE HUNTERDON MEDICAL CENTER

The Hunterdon Medical Center, established in 1953, is a 176-bed non-profit community hospital, providing a full range of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic inpatient and outpatient hospital and community health services, including state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging services; a full array of cardiac care services, an Intensive/Coronary Care Unit; comprehensive oncology services through the Hunterdon Regional Cancer Program, a partnership of Hunterdon Medical Center and Fox Chase Cancer Center; a certified Home Health Agency; a Senior Services Program; behavioral health programs; a Hospice program and preventive health education, screening, and detection services. The medical staff is comprised of 200 physicians in more than 30 specialties, including 58 family practice physicians with offices throughout the community.
Hunterdon Medical Center is a teaching institution, affiliated with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Hunterdon Medical Center is part of the Hunterdon Healthcare System which also includes the Hunterdon Medical Center Foundation, Hunterdon Regional Community Health of which Hunterdon Hospice and Visiting Health and Supportive Services are members, and Midjersey Health Corporation.
The Senior Services Program offers seniors access to services such as home health care, mental health counseling, a wide array of health screenings, nutrition counseling, physical and occupational therapy and health education programs.
The Geriatric Assessment Program evaluates the medical, social and psychological needs of the frail elderly with recommendations for appropriate follow-up care and services.
The Aging Experience offers a training program for physicians and other medical personnel regarding difficulties some elderly persons experience performing everyday tasks.
The Health and Wellness Center in Whitehouse, a full range fitness facility, offers an extensive roster of classes and workshops.
The Hunterdon Older Adult Program offers supportive counseling and assessments to help older adults maintain their safe independence.
