GROUNDBREAKING

~Groundbreaking at Communications Center!
Dated: Monday, March 20, 2006

With the recent award of the construction contract DeSapio Construction broke ground on the new addition to the Communications Center. The $3.8 million dollar renovation and expansion will include a new Dispatch room, new Emergency Operations Center and renovations to the existing building and physical plant.  more information and construction photos

PLAIN VERBIAGE REPLACES
10-CODES

~PLAIN VERBIAGE GOES INTO EFFECT BEGINNING JANUARY 01, 2006
Dated: December 22, 2005

Beginning January 1, 2006, plain verbiage will be used in place of the 10-codes for the Fire and EMS agencies.  Plain verbiage that is used will be the definition of the present 10-codes.

The Hunterdon County Board of Chosen Freeholders have adopted a resolution that mandates the National Incident Management System be utilized for all incident management in the County of Hunterdon.

Medvac/Helicopters

  • Landing Zone's will be on Hunterdon County Parks channel 5
  • The LZ channel will be assigned by Hunterdon
  • Parks channel 5 is primary however TAC-1 may still be used

Emergency Procedure Implementation

~ MAYDAY EMERGENCY EVACUATION:
DATED: October 05 , 2005

The following procedures will be implemented on October 11, 2005.
Mayday Emergency Evacuation

  • Open burns will no longer use officer's tones
  • High Band alerting
  • AMBO-2 Landing Zone's will be on Hunterdon County Parks channel 5
  • The LZ channel will be assigned by Hunterdon
  • Parks channel 5 is primary however TAC-1 may still be used
  • Due to the close proximity of North Star, they are arriving at LZ's before the fire department

On a 6 month trial basis fire departments will be alerted when the helicopter is put on stand-by.  If this trial works it can be made permanent by voting at the HCFCA.

Finally to simplify dispatching procedures across the board the fire departments will now utilize the same alerting system as the Rescue Squads.

  • Re-alert after 4 minutes
  • Mutual aid after 7 minutes if no apparatus en route
  • On automatic mutual aid all day if no response after 10 minutes
  • Mutual aid for box alarm departments is the first engine on the second alarm
  • For non box alarm departments it will be the nearest mutual aid department

Emergency Conference Call Capability

~ EMERGENCY CONFERENCE CALLS:

The Hunterdon County Office of Emergency Management has gained the ability to establish conference calls in time of emergency.  These conference calls could be utilized to talk with all the Municipal Emergency Management Coordinators, all the Fire Chiefs, all the Rescue Chiefs, or all the Police Chiefs to discuss any information that needs to be addressed with them at once. 

These conference calls will be done through Intercall (www.intercall.com), a company that specializes in global conferencing solutions.

Ambulance 5

~ AMBULANCE 5
DATED: September 19, 2005 Revised on September 20, 2005

On Tuesday September 20 at 12:00 hours (Noon) the following squads will switch their normal operations to Ambulance 5:

  • 11 Frenchtown
  • 16 Kingwood
  • 17 Lambertville
  • 23 Stockton
  • 48 Amwell Valley
  • 82-3 EMS-3

Alerting will continue to be on Ambulance 2 (155.205) The only change will be ambulances will switch over to ambulance 5 for their routine transmissions to the communications center. Alert on Ambulance 2, run the call on Ambulance 5.

*** UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, SIMULCAST ALL ALERTS ON AMBULANCE 5 ****

Squads are to utilize SPEN 4 (or a local channel ) for on scene communications, TAC-1 for Major incidents (TAC 1 to be assigned by the Communications Center) In the future helicopter landings will be done on the Hunterdon County Parks Channel. Since not all agencies have the parks channel available at this time, Helicopter landings will continue to be on TAC-1

Once we have successfully completed this trial period, all squads will be moved to Ambulance 5.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in the continuing upgrading of our system.

~ AMBULANCE 5

As part of the ongoing upgrades to the Hunterdon County Radio System, the migration of Squads to Ambulance 5 for day to day operations will be occurring the week of September 12.  The following squads will be migrating that week: 11,16, 17, 23, and 48.  Once these squads have successfully migrated with out incident, the rest of the county will follow.  All squads will be advised of their specific migration date. 

The following are the procedures that will be used:
  1. Squads will continue to be alerted on Ambulance 2 (155.205)
  2. Units shall sign on, and run the call on Ambulance 5  (155.400 repeater out)
  3. On scene coordination shall be on SPEN 4 (Ambulance 10)
  4. Major incidents will be moved to TAC 1. This channel will be assigned by the Communications Center.
  5. Major incident updates will be broadcast on Ambulance 2 and on the appropriate secondary channel. (Ambulance 5, Fire 1, or Fire 2)
As with all new procedures, keep in mind that modifications will be made as needed.
